1. No more granny panties
Any woman will tell you that matching underwear is a definite way to feel like you have your life together. You feel sexy and powerful. Ugly D grade underwear that you have had forever do the opposite. Unfortunately I have lots, more than I’d like to admit. In my first attempt to become more women, less train wreck, I will be replacing all shabby panties with sexy sets of lingerie (my boyfriend is already excited!).
2. Find the perfect pair of cream wide leg tailored pants
I LOVE my black high-waisted, wide leg pants from Cue. I have three pairs, all in slightly different styles and materials. They go with everything, and look simply elegant. I am constantly on the hunt for other colours and patterns, but my Holy Grail piece is a pair of cream wide leg, high-waisted tailored pants.
3. Find the perfect white shirt
To be honest, I need a lot of shirts. Shirts with unique patterns, different colours, sequins, and different cuts will create different looks. Yet the perfectly tailored white shirt is as much a staple as the little black dress or the perfect pair of pumps. It is an effortless throw on that displays power and professionalism, no matter how scattered one may feel.
4. Massive Wardrobe Clean Out
Hoarding clothing is almost a rite of passage, but after my wardrobe broke due to the sheer weight of my clothes I attempted numerous wardrobe clean outs. Ultimately I convince myself I will wear the items destined for the op-shop eventually. I never do. So, in an effort to de-clutter my life, I will say adios to items that were worn less than twice last year.
5. Quality, not quantity.
At first glance, my overflowing wardrobe is probably 60% items that won’t last more than a year or two. Whilst this is fine, it is not ideal. I vow to invest in quality, timeless pieces – not just wardrobe fillers. That means quality materials and timeless styles.
I totally agree - I live in heels! I have one set of flat shoes, a plain black pair from Diana Ferreri which were snuck into my cupboard by my mother. I believe that heels complete every outfit. That said flat shoes do have they merits, and espadrilles in particular appear effortlessly chic and stylishly casual. As such, I will invest in a lovely pair, and I SWEAR to wear them.
7. Wrinkles, be gone!
I constantly find myself internally whinging that items are “too much effort; I’ll just wear something else”. Wrinkly clothing is unacceptable. No matter how lovely the item, if it is wrinkled the entire outfit loses its glam. This said, I hate ironing. I will almost always opt to wear something else. Investing in a quality garment steamer could turn this around.
8. Discover more Jeans
Jeans are the ultimate casual staple. They need to be flattering, the right length and fit, and, of course, a gorgeous colour. This is Polly’s number one resolution and, considering I ripped a hole in my beloved jeans over New Years, now it is one of mine.
Jeans never survive my clumsiness: Gravity: 4, Jeans: 0.
9. The perfect pair of boots
Polly and I differ slightly on our idea of the ultimate boot. I want a gorgeous dark green pair of over the knee boots, whilst Polly dreams of the perfect black ankle boot. Last year we bought the same pair of black stiletto boots from Forever New. Unfortunately I lost one of them soon after and didn’t get to wear them. Nonetheless, over the knee boots are on my wish list.
10. Plan Plan Plan
Though I have options, I leave getting ready to the last minute. Because of this, I always panic and fall back on my favourite outfits. Planning my outfits a head of time means I will not be rushed, will have time to accessorize, and utilize my entire wardrobe (not just 10%).
Bonus Resolution: KEEP MY ROOM CLEAN. Every time I get changed I fly around my room like a hurricane and my wardrobe explodes. Keeping my room clean and organized will prolong the life of my clothing, and make it more likely that I can find what I am looking for.
