Hi.

Welcome to our little corner of the universe. Life with Lemons sheds light on everything from shower thoughts to global disasters. Speaking of, did everyone see that Trumps' health bill has collapsed? Bliss.

Couples Night In: Movie Night

Girls love movies. Guys love movies. Does this spell a happily ever after? Usually not. Any relationship decision necessitates negotiation, but for whatever reason movie choice can be one of the most difficult. When you want light comedy, and he wants violent action, how can you possibly find a happy medium? We have sourced a list of movies that may help you do just that.

1. Kingsman: The Secret Service

Halfway through this movie, which my man accidentally rented from Netflix, I had experienced a crazy roller-coaster of emotions. He, on the other hand, had enjoyed the quintessentially dry British humor and brilliantly executed action scenes.  For a balance of humor, action and coming-of-age, gentlemanly awkwardness, this movie is likely to please all parties involved.

WARNING: Your man will be repeating, “I saved the world”, for a very long time. Watch the movie, you’ll understand.

2. Mean Girls

More than any other writer, Tina Fey has conceptualized relationships and sense of self in young people, and provided a framework in which to live. Who doesn’t quote Mean Girls on a daily basis? For those who need a recap, Mean Girls is the fantastic coming of age, kickass classic that hilariously accentuates the worst aspects of growing up and navigating life in general. Because of this, Mean Girls is ALWAYS relevant, to both men and women.

3. Legally Blonde

My all time favorite movie. I can have this on repeat and never tire of the confident, glamorous Elle Woods as she fearlessly breaks prejudices and eliminates stereotypes to reach her goals. Evidently, her charm also won over my boyfriend! Not only did he enjoy this chick flick, he suggested it. But what man wouldn’t admire Elle as the model heroine.

4. Avengers…

… X Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America – if you can find something in the brilliance of Stan Lee’s characters then couple down time will be much more effortless. Personally I adore the selflessness of Steve Rogers, and the kickass Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow). I was even won over by Peter Quill’s goofball charm. The action, wit and overall story of each movie ensure, at the very least, you won’t be bored. Plus, Marvel and Fox will be rolling out the movies over the next couple of years, so it’s a good time to start watching. Also, Hugh Jackman.

5. Any of the James Bond movies

Fair enough, most people have probably seen at least one 007 movie. But James Bond remains the classic hero who wins over all audiences. His polished confidence and always-in-control attitude, themed with courageous action and a battle of intellects equals an enjoyably elegant night on the couch. With the added bonus that there are 23 (soon to be 24) movies to choose from, and 8 stars, couples are spoilt for choice.

These are the movies that have succeeded for us; we will be continually adding and developing this list as we find more movies that enrich our couples nights. If you have any suggestions, let us know!
